Cane Bay Reef Club HOTEL $$

The decor is dated but all suites include small kitchens and private patios virtually hanging over the sea. There is a pool for bathing and a seaside sundeck. Cane Bay Beach and its diving, snorkeling and beach bars are 300 yards down the busy road.

Carambola Beach Resort HOTEL $$$

( 340-778-3800; www.carambolabeach.com; North Shore Rd; r from $360; ) The Carambola is the former Rockefeller resort, and it’s posh. If you stay here, accommodations are in one of the red-roofed villas on the mountainside overlooking Davis Bay. There are about 150 suite-sized rooms with all the trimmings. Three restaurants, a world-class golf course, an on-site dive operator and tennis courts cater to the guests. The property belongs to Marriott’s Renaissance brand.
